Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.

Great for kids. My son stretched his reading and vocabulary skills, out of a love to play this game. He played it a second time through (solo) a couple years later, and my daughter is now starting it too. Both are below age 10. Not sure the game would hold up for an adult with nostalgia for CYOA books. But the love the accumulation of inventory items, and watching their character stats and bonuses grow, and the kiddo thrill of the dice rolls to advance, all on top of the story-telling.

It does feel like the old Choose Your Own Adventure books. And that's both good and bad... the writing is silly and fun; the choices sometimes feel pretty random and can end in loss. The part that is better than the books is that you are gaining tools and resolving conflicts/situations with dice and potential boosts so there is more to it than just "turn to page whatever." We had some fun with it, but I can't say I'm too excited by these games.

This is everything that made the books so fun with a really neat game system thrown in. Im sold. Hope they come out with more.
