Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

A deckbuilder with a really exciting fluidity (it's the first deckbuilder I've played where your deck actually has to evolve and change over the course of the game), but with an almost unfathomable strategy. The game simply has too many moving parts - it could be a game half as complex and it would be more enjoyable in my opinion.

Any time a game can be compared to Glory to Rome or Race for the Galaxy, my ears perk up immediately. Fort shares the lead/follow mechanic that I am so fond of with these predecessors, but it exchanges the engine-building of Race and the zany combos of Rome for a more buttoned-down approach that's more like a traditional deck-builder. Still present are multi-use cards, but you will build up a personal deck, with a twist. The cards you don't play each turn become available for your opponents to recruit. There's a lovely give-and-take dimension added to your decision making, because you have to weigh if the cards you DON'T play look appealing to your neighbors, and if you really want to hang on to them or if you're OK with them being recruited away from you. The game does not work at 4. It's too random, the game ends too quickly, and the race is annoying rather than satisfying. This will keep it from ever cracking a 9 or 10 rating, but I do really enjoy this game at 2 and 3. [COLOR=#FFFFFF][BGCOLOR=#66CC33]Expansion:[/BGCOLOR][/COLOR] [thing=341066][/thing]

Great for exactly what it is. A lot is going on in this little box. Tight engine builder with some mean aspects and clever tricks. Taking from someones deck is so novel and cool. Feels good
