Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

It really shouldn't be a new box. The components are worse. I just took the new cards and put them into the original box.

Definitely more fun if you are into the IP but I think it would be enjoyable regardless. It's kind of like splendor if it was longer, had a theme that mattered, and had dice (tiles). It's a nice tableau builder with some push your luck elements and I really like the three cards you get at the start that tell your story. It's a bit lucky and whoever triggers the end of the game will likely have a big advantage but it's still fun and definitely enhanced by the theme. The artwork is astounding and will suck you in whether or not you've read the books. I would recommend reading the books though just to get the most out of the game, however, as I can see it spoiling the first three books and it probably wouldn't be as fun.

Call to Adventure seems like a great game for those who really want games to tell a story. I tend to read books for stories and don't look to board games to scratch that itch. The framework here is fine, but the sense of "story" is pretty thin here. Level up a character this way or that way...make a choice to do this or do that. The Stormlight theme is a veneer that really doesn't hold up in a meaningful way. That being said, there is a fun game here, but it feels like a cash grab based on the popularity of Sanderson's work.
