Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

*NIS - if sold with (used but very good condition) base game, comes with complete set of game-specific sleeves.

There are not many expansions which make a game significantly worse, especially ones with such beautiful art, but this one does so, mainly by way of it's lousy implementation. Because the way this expansion is integrated into the game by removing a significant amount of the regular cards and replacing them with expansions, the whole "tell your own hero's story" is replaced with overly specific parts of Qvoth's story from Name of the Wind and Wise man's Fear, which kills much of the original appeal of the game. This should have been either much smaller and just shuffled in or been a stand alone expansion like the Stormlight Archive. The "names" as a catchup mechanism is pretty decent though.

Just a bunch of new cards for the game and a new mechanism that sweetens the missed challenges. Which unfortunately speaks to the weakness of the core gameplay. Stories are interesting as usual, but unfortunately the game itself not so much.
