Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

I was going in on the initial Kickstarter for this game, it was pulled back in order to update the look and feel of the game. I have since got to play the new version and I am glad the designers decided to rework the art. Craig Van Ness (Heroscape) is currently one of my favorite designers and I am excited about backing this in the Fall. The modular system makes for an amazing amount of depth and combinations. Exploring each one and how it interacts with its neighbors creates a new game each and every time. The closest thing I can compare it to is the Warcraft games of yesterday as you build and fight your way through the world. Just beware the dragon.... Great game a I will definitely be looking to get this to the table. Screams expansions as the game progresses, plenty to do in the initial set but the system will easily accommodate new worlds.

Won this on March 5th, 2017, in a BGG contest. Received it on August 23rd, 2018 - long after I had already completely forgotten about it. Solid and decent game though. Wouldn't have bought it, but will keep it in the collection for now.

Fairly light and somewhat variable from play to play. Some of the realms are more interesting than others. While you can gain and use various powers throughout the game, the game play is very much dominated by resource collection and point conversion. There's potential for interaction, but the game doesn't seem to incentivize it too heavily. There's a general lack of scarcity going on throughout the game, as resources and player powers are given out aplenty. Despite whatever mild novelty there is in board play and the effects of the realms, it feels like we've been here before plenty of times. It also gives off that typical Kickstarter vibe -- rules like bidding for turn order at the beginning just feel extraneous. It's a game akin to a shoulder shrug.
