New York City is being overrun with criminals. The Police Department either can’t handle this new wave of crime, or has been corrupted from the inside and refuses to help. In these troubled times, certain individuals have stepped up to keep the streets safe…while making sure they aren’t late to work, or they don’t miss another dinner date. Saving the day isn’t easy when you’ve got an active social life to maintain.
In Kick-Ass: The Board Game, players take on the role of one of seven masked vigilantes trying to keep New York City safe. Working together, they must keep the Evil Boss’ plan from coming to fruition. Each round, they travel to the various districts on the game board, beating up minions, doing good deeds for the citizens, and trying to keep their personal life from falling apart. It’s a difficult task, but luckily, they’ve got their friends to help them out.
The game includes five different bosses, and all of the different heroes, bosses, mini-bosses, and minions are represented by miniatures. Each of the seven heroes has unique gear and activation cards that they can use.

I got the game for $17 and now I see why. All the posts about the game being unwinnable are absolutely true, for the most part. The first scenario which is listed as an easy difficulty is not easy. It can be easy but it also can be very hard. The second scenario which is listed as medium is absolutely unequivocally unwinnable unless you have the absolute right situation. for instance you use Dr Gravity and you have achieved his green card. The dice makes the game too swingy. This game is great in all ways except in how it plays out. I like the components, managing the tracks, the districts, etc. I even like how it plays in theory, unfortunately in practice it doesn't work as well as it should. You can easily have no chance to build up your character. Easily missing out on getting items of significance due to you not having the money when a good item for you is available or you not having the time to buy the item, instead of mitigating the other things on the board that are stacking up very quickly. And that's the issue. Timing. They have not play tested it enough to give it proper balance. So many moving parts makes the balance quite an issue. This creates a very swingy game that swing toward unwinnable much more than it swings towards winnable. You could have a game where you win easily if things go your way. Not on the second Boss mind you. Two things people get wrong and both deal with Events. First you fill the gap when advancing an Event card if a gap exists. This is why it is from left to right instead of three separate tracks with three spaces. Two, when the Final Boss Event card comes out ALL other regular event cards are discarded. The wording of “the remaining facedown event cards” was misleading. These both should be in errata. Email them if you need proof of these two corrections. I'm a veteran board gamer but weirdly this is my first CMON game. I've played the first Zombicide and did not like it. So between that game and this I think I'm going to steer clear of this company. Update: Played against the villain John Genovese. It turned out ok. Played with Big Daddy and Hit Girl. May have got lucky since being able to obtain Big Daddy's green card and equipping him with the bazooka and enough money to reload when necessary during the boss's lair fights. Update: Some mentioned a problem with the dice. I thought they were joking as many do about the dice not going their way in dice games. Turns out their is a problem with the dice. I think the lightning bolt symbol on the same side as the target/shield symbol on one side creates an imbalance with the dice resulting in more blank sides being rolled. I would often get 75% and higher blank results. I used regular six sided and it all changed. Wow what a difference.
