Voting allows players to influence the outcome of certain events within the game. The vote may be all or nothing, choosing a target for an effect, or to determine the results of certain situations. Players’ votes may not have equal weight, and blocking a player from voting can be a valid tactic.

The King’s Dilemma is a new take on the legacy genre, with a game that is mostly story and politics driven! Players are feudal lords in a fictional world, and try to manage the kingdom while also trying to advance their agendas. Everything is open to discussion and negotiation, while every crisis must be solved through a vote among the members of the council. Everything is so simple, but everything is so complex... The King’s Dilemma may not be for everyone, but is definitely a game worth to be explored with the right group! After a whole campaign, I made up my mind on the rating: it’s a 6. The concept of the game is great and unique, but the execution has a few rough edges. The voting system has problems and almost always leads to “gamey” auctions that are uninteresting. More than often players have to play against their background objectives if they want to pursue short term goals. I understand this should lead to the eponymous Dilemmas... nevertheless it felt quite not right. The major weak spot, although, is that after a few games, King’s Dilemma became a bit stale, with no overarching narrative or change of pace: it felt just... more of the same...

This is a tough one to rate for me. As a game, it's just kinda ok. You end up playing 15+ games all lasting anywhere from 30-90 mins so there's a lot of investment. You do vote after vote after vote often with little idea of how it will play into the bigger picture both for you or for the game as a whole. And there's some fundamental mechanics involved with scoring and passing votes that are pretty easily manipulated if you don't really care about the spirit of the game and how you're "supposed" to play. Oh yeah, and the ending of the game is kinda meh. With all the said, my experience with King's Dilemma was one of the best experiences I've had with any game and that is partially due to the game itself but also due to the group I played it with. The game really doesn't pull punches with various situations it presents and while it does do some cliche things, it also very much doesn't. You HAVE to at least role-play your character a little bit in order to get enjoyment from this because if you play it strictly as just another game to learn and master, you'll be bored by the third session. So, is this a good game? Yeah, kinda. Sorta. But is this a good experience with 3-4 of your friends if you're willing to let the game play you a bit? 100%

It's a different kind of game. It's more interesting than fun. Role playing can help, being interested in the story, the map/background help, but because it isn't essential it's not as appealing to invest the time in the story. Finished game 8: the game isn't what I hoped for which was a good story. It's OK but Legacy of Dragonholt was more engaging and I was more invested and interested in exploring the world. By game 11, most people just want to finish the game for completion. You really just match symbols. To enjoy the game you really have to become invested in the story, because even though it advertises that your decisions have an impact it doesn't really impact you as a player.
