After many plays and countless hours, I have to say this expansion should be avoided. I won't beat a dead horse on the Potions side of it but even after I implemented some house rules to streamline the fiddly rules, it's transparently pointless and doesn't change the game much. Before I talk about the Charms, here's some context: At this point, we're looking for a shorter game that is STILL a challenge. We've tried it with only 6 villains and the most powerful version of Voldemort, but we end up holding off on killing one of the three final villains until we deal with the hocruxes first which often takes 3+ HOURS depending on your ability to get House dice and roll well. So we no longer play with play with hocruxes (just encounter cards)...I love the Charms and I think they're a really fun idea and easy to implement without the need for house rules (for once). Problem is, they make our desire for a short/challenging game too easy. They have to go. So despite trying to fix the Potions, we don't use them as they make the game longer AND we don't use the Charms either as they make the game easier...Get the Monster box. This one is now collecting dust and I have no fond memories.

More of the same, but definitely a good thing if you enjoy this game as much as our family does. Nothing Earth shattering in terms of new mechanics. The charms boards are strictly a boon for the heroes and potions can both help and hurt your progress. The potions in particular are a little fiddly with the extra tokens to track but the theme is there which is important. Ginny is a fun new hero we enjoy playing. I found the 4 scenarios to be on the easy side but the final does have some unique challenges. Over all, far from an essential expansion but welcome if you are a collector and play often.

Love this expansion for literally everything but the potions. I play without the potion hunting and potions dark arts and Hogwarts cards. Still worth it IMO
