Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

The art is intriguing and effective, if uninspiring. I enjoyed learning this game and playing it with friends that are more into heavy euros. It expanded my understanding of economic euros, but I don't think I want to play this one again.

Tier 2: official Solo. Med.. I realised thatI really like this as a solo experience and would love to play with others. #20 2019. The art doesn't inspire, and it struggles to come off shelf, but I like it when it gets to the table. K

I don't typically like "games of mini-games." They often don't integrate well and feel like they're held together by the most tenuous of threads. Ground Floor is different. You can feel the linkages between each location, even if the flow isn't immediately apparent. The game does a very nice job of providing a pump jack economy of two types of capital (cash and info) so you must use you liquid assets to plan/invest to be ready for your planned actions once they arrive. Of course, there are other players in the game wishing to stop you. That's where this game gets good. The operation phase is dictated by turn order so you have to place priorities on your actions during planning. Do you need to do get some consulting that badly? Or can you wait while you ensure the top spot in the stock market? Ground Floor is full of tough, meaningful, well-integrated decisions that clearly affect not only your trajectory, but the trajectory of players around you.
