Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.
Tile Placement
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

The Dice Tower review convinced me that this game isn't worth buying. I might play it if someone were to have it on hand, but only then just to experience the game and confirm or deny my initial negative opinions about it.

My least favorite of the Forbidden games I've tried, and the only one I don't enjoy playing. The extra complexity this one adds did not make the game more fun or interesting for me. Also too many random things (wind, lightning, etc) happen between each of my turns making me feel like I have very limited ability to plan. The toy factor of the rocket ship activating is cool, but I'd rather just play with the rocket and skip the rest of the game.

Different, but probably my least favorite of the Forbidden line. Desert is the best, this is close to Island.
