Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Solid expansion. The new buildings and roles add nice variety and the townhouses change up play a bit, but the outlaws add an unnecessary random element, so we left them out in our plays.

Expansión correcta con más personajes y alguna mecánica nueva. Dada la rejugabilidad del juego base la veo solo útil si le das muchas partidas al juego.

2019-01-28 Initial Rating: 7.0 (January 2018) I like Carson City so I was keen to play Carson City: Gold & Guns. As it turned out, we didn’t include all of the rules in the game so this will be a short comment. When I play the expansion with the full rules, I will come back to comment on them. Carson City: Gold & Guns adds more characters which is the most important addition for me. I have only played with The Indian (which I will comment on its entry), with The Prospector and The Singer. The Prospector is great! You can use him to build mines, it saves you the hassle to buy the parcel and the mine. It there are no mines you can use dynamite tokens to duel and to increase your income one turn. Very powerful!! The singer is also very neat! She can use any action and avoid a duel EVEN with the sheriff which was a pretty strong strategy within the base game. I really like them and I’m very keen to try the rest of the characters. Each character adds a new option to consider and I love this. Also, as you only play with a small subset of them in each play (and they are double sided), the replayability factor goes through the roof. The new rules can be explained under 5 minutes if you are familiar with the game. The expansion also comes with new building which is very welcomed! So far I have only played with the City Hall. It is very neat (although a bit of a hassle to explain before it appears and there is only 1 in the game), it increases the income of some buildings by one level. That can be very powerful! I still haven’t played with the Outlaws so I don’t know anything about them. Bottom line, Carson City: Gold & Guns is a good expansion, it adds more of everything and the new characters and buildings are great, so I see no reason to not mix them with the base ones. I think I will always use them from now on. The new options make viable new strategies and that’s great! Good stuff. Current Rating: 7.0
