Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Decided to purchase at least the Shadows of Mirkwood cycle to the Lord of the Rings LCG. The game really didn't get enough play to justify continuing on with some of the larger expansion packs (Khazad-Dum, Heirs of Numenor) or their respective expansion cycles. The art on the cards is generally very well done, and it is interesting to see some of the new things that the game designers came up with to add more variety to the game, but at the end of the day a game that gets infrequent play didn't deserve the expense required to keep the game complete. Maybe I'll return to this when I've collected a bunch of other games on the wishlist.

Adventure Pack from the Shadows of Mirkwood cycle. Not the best expansion but some useful hero cards (for example a good, cheap defender - Winged Guardian) and Bilbo as hero. Low difficulty scenario (while a not very good one). Hero: Bilbo Baggins / Good cards: Rivendell Minstrel, Winged Guardian, Dunedain Mark, Song of Kings. Mayday sleeved.
