Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management

In general, the increase in complexity and difficulty does not suit well the basic game system, ramping up the fiddliness (8 attachments to a single character...) and doing a disservice to the ability of the game to recreate the events. This is particularly apparent in Cirith Ungol, which is turned into an epic pitched battle (between characters that were not there at all, for the most part), rather than the feat of stealth it should be. Still an enjoyable conclusion to the whole affair, mostly in the last two quests, which fit together very well.
