Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

This is what an expansion should do: improve upon the mechanics of the base game, add some new exciting things to do without moving the focus too much to other things. You have a new critter worker to place, which gives you more options, but you can only use that new critter (the frog ambassador) to use the action spaces that relate to the river. Base game events - which were probably the weakest part of the game - are replaced by Wonders, which are - no pun intended - wonderful additions to the game, representing at the same time an important source of point, an additional source of interaction and a major contributor to the game looking great at the table. This one surpassed our expectations.
Bastwood
Huge box for a small expansion. I don't think this is entirely necessary, since the base game feels fine as it is.

Imo the best thematic expansion. Sadly also the worst in terms of game mechanics. The game focus switches completely to aquiring the pearls to build the "wonders". With some houserules we balanced the game for ourselfs so its now quite enjoyable. Still i think that should be the designers job, so thats why only "5 stars"
