Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

I am amazed at how great this game turned out. We went from hearing about it out of nowhere, to its arrival, to all of sudden thinking, wow- what a great game. Very clean components, a very simple, but deep set of gameplay mechanics, and a lot of options for customization. A nearly perfect purchase for me.

An exceptional design that really ticks the head to head card game itch that you may have from pokemon, magic, etc... I really love how little luck plays a part, how there are no "useless" or "boring" cards in your deck, the beautiful artwork, the variety of playstyles, the fact that you don't have to hunt down rares, that releases come out in a palatable amount per year.... theres honestly so much to love here. I've personally only played the game with three people and I can imagine people who play this on a tournament scene having a lot to sink their teeth into. But I have had a ton of fun playing just within my gaming group. But skill level is important to your enjoyment of the game so if you are playing against someone with far less experience with it than you its not going to be a fun game for either player (luck doesn't play as a big a role as with other games of this ilk).

A nicely streamlined and aesthetically pleasing head to head card game. I'm enjoying the to and fro of the game there are plenty of meaningful choices to make. The ability to choose your starting hand is a really nice touch and it prevents those blow out games that can happen in Magic where you get nothing and mulligan the game away. Another head to head card duel game that has slowed down for us despite not really getting that many games in during the initial trial period. 04/11/19: Haven't played this in years, only still in the collection because I'm too lazy to list all the expansion content on ebay < May 2016 + Rin, Brennan > March 2020
