Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Player elimination occurs in multiple-player games (>2) when a player can be eliminated from the game and play continues without the eliminated player.
Player Elimination
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

Not the best exploration game. The random components are interesting but all really similar in the end.

After holding off for many months, I finally bit the bullet on this at $15 and got Island/Bayou. We played one scenario (full co-op) so far and found it's a decent, light survival game. The mechanics are simple enough to teach to children (although the story text needed a little editing for content). There was definitely a feeling of both scrounging for food/water and also discovering new things about the island as we piddled around. I may finish the scenarios to see how they play out but I doubt it will have much replayability. Too many of the map features are affixed to specific cards. I believe the game was meant to be played through once or twice then traded. Overall - it was worth $15 for the fun of opening the game, looking through the "unique" components, exploring the island. Looking forward to a couple of other games before I retire it or trade it off.

Great little survival game and love the unique system. Others in our group can pick it up, or I can trade for a new experience. It’s a good change from FFG for once
