Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.
Tile Placement

After 3 plays, I am still not sure if this is a great game or not, but I continue to be fascinated by the puzzle it presents and am curious to explore and understand it better. The different guilds and the way people at the table play them ensures a very different economy (meta) in every game. The production is top-notch in every way and makes me want to spend more time with it! Pain Points: The opaqueness of how everything affects each other might be a stumbling block for many and might make the game seem "random" which would be inaccurate. I think if the game did a better job of making the economy just a little more transparent (the app helps a bit), it would go a long way in making players feel in control and make choices more strategically. I didn't really like how difficult it was to increase the price of goods versus how easy it was to decrease them. I also didn't love the unevenness of building the church that some actions were meh and others were wow. And the mines just weren't competitive at all. I don't understand the point of market manipulation when you don't gain a benefit from that manipulation and in fact its typically the players directly after you that will first gain that benefit. I think the hitch in the giddy up here is the fact it takes you three actions to build something. Its hard to create a benefit that only you get when your actions are so clearly telegraphed. It's a decent game but not a great one, I'll wait to see if adding an expansion makes it more compelling.

Played a demo of this at Origins 2023 and had an absolutely wonderful time. Will definitely purchase a copy when it comes available.
