Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Incredibly wholesome albeit sort of broken game. After a few plays, you realize that if you REALLY tried and gave 100% effort, you can easily wipe the floor with your opponents. So it helps that the game is very much a noncompetitive competitive game — it does have a winner and a loser, but you're all working toward building the same festival and just enjoying the great outdoors, making friends and picking up sticks and beetles etc. Its wholesomeness outweighs its lopsided design. I do have quibbles that I hope get fixed in a follow-up edition: Some of the character cards, patches, and favours are unclear in their abilities, and the snail cards, while a good mechanic, need a little clarifying about stuff like whether or not you're allowed to use special patches during your turn. With stronger rules, it'd be a perfect game. As is, it's a great woodland experience for anyone who loves games like "Flamecraft."

❦ Solo Mode // Included in the Base Game ❦ Required Play Space // 40" x 26" ❦ Setup Time // 5 Minutes ❦ Play Time // 45 Minutes ✅ The artwork is adorable, bright, and charming with all sorts of characters, objects, and scenes to appreciate. ✅ Crafting favors and making friends are very approachable, and the game is devoid of any sort of negative conflict. ✅ Decisions are vital and it never feels like an action is wasted with the way everything is tied together so well. ✅ Building up a group of friends is thematic and helps expand action choices each round, which is very powerful. ✅ There are many ways to earn victory points and although a balanced approach helps, it isn’t required to do well. ✅ Almost everything from the multiplayer game is the same in the solo mode, making it easy to learn and play. ❌ It would have been nice if the festivities were included in the solo mode in some way, as they’re pretty important. ❌ Duplicate cards show up a little too often in the favors deck, and the variety here feels a little lower than the rest. ❌ Some degree of luck is needed to make the most of the sun goods and foraged resources throughout every round. ❌ With a lot of interconnected elements, there is the possibility of getting caught up in the options near the end.
