Downfall of the Third Reich is a good game. Its cousin, Downfall of Empires is better. There are two cons I have towards the game. The rules are a translation from the original Español, and this problematic. The lack of good player aids complicate things. However, the designer / development team have been working hard to answer questions. I think in awhile, thanks to their efforts and the BGG community, the rules will get better (and there is already an excellent player aid reminding players of important rules, and other items by year.). This costs the game ‘1-point’. The other con is the limitation in possibly strategies. By making Spain and Turkey neutral, the game will be plunge into France, then fight the Soviets in 1941. There is also, strangely, no critical terrain on the map other than Trondheim and oil fields. It would be cool if other sites gave players more tanks, supplies, air, naval, actions, etc. There are some key sites in the Soviet union and Germany that affect reinforcements, and so that is good. Please dont get me wrong. This is a solid 7+ game, and I think well worth getting. As the rules get sorted out, it will become an even better game. ———————————- As I play more I have found the design team and super-users helpful with questions. Increasing my rating to an 8. There is also so much more that could be added. It will be interesting to see how this game, and game system moves forward.

For a simple looking game, the rules are a little confusing at first glance. I'll update this first look opinion after I work my way through the rules and play the game. I was hoping this would be an introductory game for beginners I want to bring to the (war) gaming table.

The game concept is fine, playing WW2 in a short session. But, unlike with Downfall of Empires, there are too many exceptions and special rules (and no playaid!) for a game that tries to be simple. Also, it feels heavily scripted and the rulebook is quite disorganized.
