Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

The best game of the show. After Stationfall, and Voidfall, we now have Evenfall. Everything is falling! This is also the third witch-themed board game I played at Essen and the best of all. 51st State is one of my favorite games of all time, and I think this one might replace it. It has multi-use cards in a huge deck. Tableau-building, Engine-building. And it also adds worker placement to the lot. There is a really fun balance: cards in your top row (outer circle) generate resources but don't score points, and vice-versa for the bottom cards. Extra workers called elders can also use the bottom card actions, which make your engine even more efficient. I loved everything about it, and I'm excited to play more. I signed my copy and took a picture with the designer. Me: Is this your first game? Him: Yes, I'm really surprised by the reaction. Me: Why, is it a bad game? Him: no answer

Was fun with symmetric game mode, engines aren't too long so you aren't just waiting for other players. I rarely had the feeling waiting for others because there was a lot of planning to do.

Solitaire. Feels a bit clunky and overloaded. I like the art. Best with 2 people. Gets worse with more because of downtime.
