The game is a detective game where you get set of evidences and need to decide who is the criminal. You get set physical objects in combination with digital parts and use them for investigation. At the end of the process players need to enter the name of the criminal and it will be validated if it’s correct. It’s also possible to get hints which will help finding the right solution.
Game can played in a cooperative mode as well as in a competition mode – players can split into teams and compete who is finding the criminal first.
The game is designed as a realistic criminal case and requires investigations similar to those carried out by the Criminal Police in real life.
—description from the designer

This is a very cool game. It is quite short, moderately mindless, but it does not allow you to relax for a second. But there are only sheets of paper in it from the components! Amazing feelings!

The approach that the Detective Stories series takes is simply to present you with a bundle of evidence. The challenge is entirely to piece it all together to solve the crime. There is evidence in the box, but you'll also need to access the internet. Kaifeng 982 was my first encounter with this series and I didn't enjoy it. I liked Fire in Adlerstein better. The characters in this mystery are really no better fleshed out, but perhaps their modern day doings felt a bit more relatable. It probably helped that I found this puzzle easier too; Adlerstein doesn't demand quite the same laser-sharp attention to detail. I even found myself laughing at one really obvious connection between two pieces of evidence that I'd failed to spot. Kaifeng provoked only chin stroking. My one real criticism of the case is that the decryption tasks felt out of place. The materials in the box do a decent job of providing an engaging narrative to piece together. They're nicely produced and have an authentic look.
