Transform and roll out!
The Autobots are brave robot warriors hailing from the planet Cybertron. Their mission? To stop the Decepticons from enacting their evil schemes on Earth.
In Transformers Deck-Building Game, you take on the role of one of the mighty Autobots. Travel and explore the Matrix and transform between your different modes as you gain allies, find relics, and acquire technology to do battle with the Decepticons. But be warned! As your deck grows, more powerful Decepticons will rise up to challenge you.
Transformers Deck-Building Game can be played competitively or as a co-operative experience. This core set will begin your collection with everything needed to play, but the battle is far from over as playable Decepticons are on the way to expand your game.

Transformers DBG has some nice ideas. For example, the card matrix is a unique take on the market mechanic and doubles as the game board. The Bot and Alt mode transformations for the Autobot player characters are highly thematic. The player assists in cooperative games are an enjoyable way to fight together against Decepticon enemies. And I greatly appreciate that the insert holds sleeved cards. That said, this game feels very unpolished. Decepticon cards have stats, but you just ignore those because you mostly cannot add them to your deck. Nearly every printed card references victory points, but solo and coop modes do not use victory points—players must convert VP to one of the game currencies. The competitive mode works against the theme. Entire sets of cards are only meant to be used in certain modes but not others. Overall, Transformers DBG tries to do too many things and suffers from it. It does not excel at any of them and feels like it needed more time in development. The game is entertaining enough for fans of the IP, but those who are not fans can safely skip this one.

Definitely not your typical deck-building game. Several ways to play the game, but I surmise it is best as a cooperative experience with all the Transformers working together. I like the grid layout and the exploration aspect of the game. Keeps it interesting from turn to turn. Worth checking out if you enjoy deck-builders.

Bought this hoping it would be a good addition to my games. I found it difficult to understand without watching a video. there are also a few rules in it that don't quite make sense and I could not find clarification anywhere.
