Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Fun game! I like the fact this was a BGG print and play that was picked up by a company and developed. I do feel like I'm running a shop, with picky, impatient customers. Forecasting customer demand feels true. The inability to please everybody feels true (you can't do everything you want). For a regular gamer this is a light-medium game (some might say gateway plus or something). It's difficulty is similar to Fantasy Realms. In fact, it crossbreeds strains of Fantasy Realms and Roll Player into a satisfying, strategic game of its own.

Merchants of Magick: a Set a Watch Tale by @rockmanorgames is a roll & write game that puts you in the role of a magic shoppe owner as you learn how to craft and enchant items to sell! In the game, 4 different polyhedral dice will be rolled, and you will pick 2 of them to research various enchantments or items. You’ll mark off the many circles and when all the circles of an item/enchantment are marked off, you’ll gain a reward and will be able to fulfill contracts that require that item/enchantment! Throughout the game, adventurers requesting for specific items will be going to your shops and if you are able to meet their needs, you’ll fulfill their orders and get additional points! And each player will also start the game with a sponsored adventurer that requires specific items made for them. We enjoyed the fantasy theme to this roll & write, and producing items and enchantments is a really interesting concept. We had fun seeing all the various items that we could make and using the dice to improve your skills made you feel more and more powerful each and every turn. However, simply looking at the mechanisms, we did have an issue with how unbalanced it can be sometimes simply due to luck. As you would draw a random adventurer after you completed an order, there is a chance you would score for the new one too if you so happened to have fully researched their requirements on previous turns. This can cause quite a high swing in scores if certain players keep getting “free” orders. If you don’t mind the randomness and enjoy the concept of researching and crafting magical items though, this game would be perfect for you. We had an incredible time creating our masterpieces and I’m sure you will too! Originally posted on https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn9lhuMyryQ/
