Juego de exploración divertido y con excelente estética. Algo azaroso y con final ajustado. Unas piezas y tableros más grandes le hubiera venido muy bien. Muy recomendable.

Pure joy. After reading Dan Thurot's (Space-Biff's) strongly positive review I knew I had to play it, and he was (no surprise) right about everything. (You can read his review here: https://spacebiff.com/2022/06/07/the-guild-of-merchant-explorers/ ) My wife and I have played many, many games of GOME by now and are extremely impressed. I see many reviews comparing it to Kingdom Builder and I of course get that on a basic level, but in practice it feels very different. For one thing, with KB I feel like I'm putting pieces on a gameboard, and that's it. With GOME I feel like I'm being invited into a *world* -- the maps are flat-out gorgeous and the art style is captivating and enticing. I feel like I'm actually reconnecting a fading empire. I have seen some complaints about the art, and it is perhaps a bit more desaturated than would be ideal, but I'm willing to pay that price to be invited into a gameworld so compelling. I see complaints that (unlike KB) GOME is multiplayer solitaire for the most part, but when done well (as this game does) I don't mind -- not every game has to offer direct confrontation. If anything I think GOME improves on KB in crucial ways even on the level of mechanics. Having 5 standard cards repeat initally seems like it will be too "samey" but it isn't. There's a fascinating tension in not being sure of the *order* of the remaining cards, and I love how the game extracts so much interest from so simple a mechanism. I think that the mechanic of having to remove your cubes at the end of each era is BRILLIANT. It creates a delicious tension of "what do I do?" when you have the option of aiming for discovering a village, or creating a trade route, or discovering a tower, or... The engine building of village-creation functions a bit like dropping your own limited save points in a video game (Ori comes to mind). Fun fun. I can't wait to order new maps and expansions as they come available. This game is a winner.

Very good "flip and write." The powers feel appropriately powerful, and the bonuses you continually work toward (discovery towers and ruins) are satisfying. It is fun to build your routes with cubes rather than x's on a sheet. I think replayability may be somewhat limited, but different maps help.
