Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
Voting allows players to influence the outcome of certain events within the game. The vote may be all or nothing, choosing a target for an effect, or to determine the results of certain situations. Players’ votes may not have equal weight, and blocking a player from voting can be a valid tactic.
Voting
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Game celebrates colonization and subjugating the locals. It says it isn't, but if you look at the language used in regards to the conquerors and conquered, it is obvious the indigenous people are of little more importance than a speed bump to progress. This is gross.

Reasonably good "worker-placement" Euro; has LOTS of choices, and the theme works very well. The player-aids are good--but take a little while to learn how to read and understand. Cards are reasonably good quality--the miniatures (I have the KS deluxe edition) are very nice. The solo rules work very well, and the game works very well with 1-5 players. 5 players are certainly best, as then you optimize all the negotiations, ,diplomacy, and trading aspects. Recommended.

Initially, I was skeptical of this, but the game really is engrossing. A 5 hour session zips by, and the combination of all the mechanically overwrought pieces come together in a cohesive whole.
