Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

Kind of a bittersweet upgrade to the original. Reminds me of the lorenzo expansion in that it took a silky smooth hour-long game, doubled the amount of stuff going on, and added a half hour to the playtime. Normally that bothers me, but heres what it comes down to: burgundy anniversary is NOT recommended for people just getting into burgundy, or those who have played between one to ten times. I had played it just over 30 times and was able to play on autopilot. Win or lose, The game stopped challenging me At all. This version of burgundy was something i didnt know i needed, but did. It breathed new life into it, and its burning my brain again. The shields are also kinda bittersweet: they warp the game to the point that they have become the most important element, but its a fine tradeoff as they add SO much variety and now even new paths to the game. As far as the new art: yeah, its wayyyyy less functional and my girlfriend hates it but the old art was so ugly it hurt my retinas. Thanks to the new art, looking at this game no longer makes me sad, so its another fine tradeoff. The lack of an insert, which even the OLD VERSION had, or even cloth bags is unacceptable however. Im soooooo pissed off about this. So, final verdict: this is only for hardcore burgundy players who were burning out on the game.

Me and wife really enjoy this game. It might seem a bit overwhelming due to all the different tiles and components, but when you start playing it's really not a difficult game to learn. It's a strategy game, but a light one, it doesn't have a feeling of a puzzle. If you like strategy games and tile placing games, this one is really great. I'll disagree with most of the negative points I've read here in the comments - The game isn't short, but shouldn't take over 90 minutes with 2 players. It really doesn't feel that much because the turns are fast, unless you're seriously overthinking. When the game ends we even wish we had a couple more rounds to complete our goals. - It takes a few minutes to set-up, mostly just organizing tiles by color. For a game that plays for over an hour, it's nothing. I can't understand why it would bother someone. - The design is quirky, but it's actually the reason why I bought this game. I can understand why it might not appeal to everyone, but we like it. - The reference numbers on the tiles are small, but if you have an average vision, it shouldn't be a problem. It's a great feature which makes it so much easier to find what you need. We never had to get stuck in the rulebook for too long. The only negative side is that after a few games it starts feeling a bit repetitive, there's not much variety in terms of how you play each game. Maybe we didn't learn all the possible strategies yet but that's my current impression.

My top euro game. I don't know how it works, but I haven't get more excitement from any other euro. -0.5 because of poor quality of components
