Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

I am a big fan of Lacerda games. This one holds up as my #1. The game presents itself as a whirlwind of mechanisms and goals, but just play it a couple of times, and the elegance and simplicity of the game begins to reveal itself. Once you are familiar with the rules and flow and the way which each element of the game feeds into the other elements, the complexity seems to melt away. The tension of what to attempt to accomplish remains, the tension between my goals and the goals of my opponents in rebuilding the city remains (and deepens), but every action makes sense in the context of the whole.

Beatiful game. Mechanics are simple yet it's all intertwined so it seems complicated. AP is also very common in this game so it can take a while to play 1 game.

[i]2017/10/04 - 2 plays 1-2p[/i] Wonderful game. The production values are through the roof, and gameplay is very fluid. Once the rules are understood, the game actually plays quite fast, making the game very approachable. The theme permeates every facet of the game design, from the rules to the graphic design, and helps a lot in understanding the game. I particularly enjoyed the flavor text, which is a nice and unobtrusive entry point to the historical period. The game itself is a delight. You start with very tight resources, but game end is completely different with an economic acceleration. Managing the end-game is crucial for victory. The struggle for control of the shop location and public buildings is an interesting chess-like aspect of the game, while the action selection via hand management and action follow-up is key to stay in the race. I still haven't figured out what is the true importance of the Church track, but it seems go affect the play tempo. Thematically the decrees (end game scoring goals) are the weakest part, but they are necessary to the game. I have read some criticism about randomness, but I think you need to understand that the game is quite tactical, even though you need to have some strategic awareness. The solo version is a pleasant surprise, and reinforces the spatial chess like aspect of shop building and public building aspect of the game. Although I played solo to help learning the game, I think it's actually an interesting way of playing Lisboa.
