Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.

The art is so pretty! The recessed honey boards are very cool. The bee player pieces are great! The bee direction mechanism was a little confusing at first, but once we got it, it made excellent sense with the theme—sort of felt like strategic bees on flowers because of it. The instructions were good. The appendix was great. The nectars were great. The storage insert that came with it fits everything perfectly. Elegant design. Love this game. Our 12 year chess/strategy fan loved it especially. Love Next Move games & looking forward to checking the designers other games!

A nice, extremely fast playing abstract movement game. Feels a lot like a quicker Takenoko as you plan movement and try to achieve goals. The movement system is creative and provides plenty of depth and planning with minimal complexity and no luck, but the acquiring of nectar itself isn't very interesting. A pleasant game but variety in scoring cards is the only meaningful variety between plays, which isn't quite enough for me.

I wanted to enjoy this game a lot, but it was so underwhelming. The movement of the bees isn't all that intuitive, and grabbing the pollen to score is just derivative of a ton of other games. The components are solid, but nothing so remarkable you have to get the game. The different ways of scoring is so similar to 30 other games I've played in recent years. I just wanted something new and special, but Beez didn't offer it. Add into that the fact that my family kept confusing how the bees moved, and it was a total bust that I have no reason to play again.
