Stroganov (Kickstarter – Deluxe Edition)
90m - 90m
1 - 4 Players
Ages 12+
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Note: Pre-release Tabletopia Verison described Great art, interesting theme, somewhat let down by a too-simple Euro. There's nothing particularly bad about the game - it just doesn't stand out in the same way some of Steding's other designs do. I feel like it's missing more mechanic to drive player interaction - things can feel a bit too multiplayer solitaire for our liking. I also think that horse income could have been cut down a bit, as the game throws a ton of horses at you which allows you to really do whatever you'd like.

Wow I'm quite impressed with this game! Strikes a nice balance between having a lot of options, especially with all the extra ancillary actions available, but the general gist of your main actions is fairly straightforward. Art is great, theme is something different and fits the mechanisms well. I know this game had a lot of trouble over the production for kickstarter backers, but I have little qualms with my retail copy. Not sure if it pertained to the deluxe version, or I got a later printing with some stuff improved but it's fine for me. Needs more plays to see if it holds up but this is feeling like a bullseye for me, this should be a fairly prominent game in the collection going forward.

First Play: Good rule book so the preamble was quick and the game sped along well. Nice interaction with the mechanics and although no 'in your face' player interaction, you must be aware of what the others are doing and planning. A very solid game with what looks like plenty of replayability.
