Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Card drafting, dice engine building game where players can combine dice for a bigger action. A player rolls two dice. Each die can be used to activate a spot or sum up both dice to activate one of 12 spots (ships). All other players can choose and activate their deployed space ships as well. This game is a race for the player who first collects 40 victory points. + Artwork (clean, cartoony) + Components (thick, long player boards, unusual narrow cards, transparent cubes, custom dice) + Building combos, satisfying tableau / engine building + Cube cards offer players control and options to manipulate dice + Even more engagement when it is not your turn (no downtime) + A lot of ships with different abilities (variety) + Colony ships provide victory points, but also block space on board for further cards + 3 tracks to + Smooth turns + Quite quick playing time + Quite easy to teach (core game, except for the different abilities) # Theme (pasted on) # Players loose all money when buying a ship (unthematic, mechanical) # Little interaction: buy ship or colony before someone else (no take that) # No hidden information # Runaway leader may happen # Better with more than 2 players # Downtime may be an issue (if someone needs a lot of time to pick a ship) - Rule book is okay (there is a revised rules and FAQ online on AEG's website) - Some abilities are unintuitive, a lot of extra rules to explain them - Each turn phase has multiple time slots for certain abilities (could been streamlined) - No player aids :-( - Prone for a lot of first play errors (differentiation between red, blue, green abilities) - Slow, repetitive start (especially in a 2 player game). Overall, I like the game to be shorter. Similar games: * Machi Koro (reinvented this dice system, slow, death turns) * Valeria * Settlers of Catan (more dice luck, less mitigation, tile laying, trading) * Bad Company (quicker, more thematic)

Very fun lighter game that makes you feel like you are always doing something on other people's turns.
