Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

For a simple card game, it's quite entertaining. It's a push your luck where it's slightly costly, but not ruinous if you fail.

The “twist or stick” mechanic will probably get compared to Port Royal, and the game is probably about the same weight, though there are significant differences. Each turn in Kodachi you assess your hand and opt to go for strength (play cards with a higher value than the flipped guards you need to beat) or stealth (play lower than the guards). As you gain cards, you try to tailor your hand to strength or stealth (the worst sort of hand has a mixture of high and low cards). I enjoyed the way that each time you “twist” you reveal cards from two decks, one is the guard card you have to beat, the other a potential reward that could be VPs or improving your hand or a bit of both. It means that you're continually balancing how much you want the rewards so far turned over with the risk of flipping another guard. The more guards you turn over and beat, the more you can take. Get defeated once, and you take nothing. Downtime is mitigated by the rule allowing each non-active player to take one revealed card after the active player has either taken their rewards or gone bust.
