The Expanse Board Game
60m - 60m
2 - 4 Players
Ages 14+
The Campaign/Battle Card Driven mechanic is a relatively recent development in war games that focuses the players' actions on cards they have in their hand. The very basic idea is that performing a single action uses a single card. Games where cards are used to determine the outcome of battles do not use this mechanic.
Campaign / Battle Card Driven
Maneuvers that directly attack an opposing player's strength, level, life points or do something else to impede their progress.
Take That
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

This gets much closer to compressing COIN into a shorter play time than Root. Root focusses too much on the dudes on the map, this focusses on the ebb and flow and wrangling with a dynamically evolving situation. Tempo is key. Shame the components are so awful.

Initial rating after one play. I think the game has a lot of potential and I found myself really enjoying my first play even though I did awful. Love the use of the Twilight Struggle-esque card play where you can either take the event (if eligible) or take the AP but risk turning the event over to your opponents. Really want to play more.

Like Twilight Struggle? Have more than 2 players who want to play it? Like "The Expanse" books/TV show? If the answer to any of these is "yes", why don't you own this already?
