This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
In-game money is bet on different commodities in hope that that particular commodity will become the most valuable as the game progresses. Often the values of the commodities are continually changing throughout the game, and the players buy and sell the commodities to make money off of their investment.
Commodity Speculation
In games with a trading mechanic, the players can exchange game items between each other.

I got this in a trade because I think it sounds like an easy to teach game. I like auction games so this made my list. I've printed bigger player board and thermal sealed them so they can be reused with dry erase markers. Can't wait to play.

just played this tonight with a group of seven and it was plenty of good fun. It definitely makes you feel like a Ferengi! Each card in the set is connected to a "Rule of Acquisition" and if you don't play like a greedy Ferengi then you're missing the point. The artwork is good, the game tokens adequate and the need to both form allies and break those alliances are truly the art of the game. Monopolies can be really profitable, but they also put a huge target and the Action Cards are well designed to turn a game completely around...if you know how and when to use them. It was not difficult to learn the basics and by the end of the first game, we felt we really knew what to do.

Quickly exposes friends' and loved ones' inner Ferengi. An excellent game of suspicion, broken trust, back-stabbing, front-stabbing, and general animosity. But who's paying for synthehol? Why isn't that commodity, in a DS9 game, self-sealing stem bolts.
