Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.
Simultaneous Action Selection
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.
Tile Placement
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

A gorgeous game that has a compelling theme for me. I ended up selling it because it was heavier than I wanted in a game and I wasn’t playing it.

Wow there is a lot of game here. Layers of game. Similar to Kanban in board movement, strategy, and player interaction. I think I need to play it again before I decide how I feel about it but for now I'll classify it as a community puzzle where people get in each other's way trying to solve it.

By far the heaviest game I own; the mechanisms don't mirror it but it makes me think of Colosseum turned to 11 complexity and I mean that in the best possible way. Wonderful art, theme and components. I do need an organizer though because setup is a bit long without one.
