Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.
Tile Placement
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Era 2 of Caverna: Cave vs Cave is a quite curious expansion. It is introduced at an end of the base game, adding 4 more actions and rounds with an additional board to fill with cave rooms. . It is not a bad expansion and for those who liked the original game it is a great addition. My only gripe is that it now takes too long for what it is... since game length was one of the best things about little Caverna.

Instead of increasing variety it just adds a new chapter at the end of the game, making you teach new rules half way through, while the original part stays exactly the same... a terrible idea.

I like this trimmed down version of Caverna, but we'd rather play Agricola or Le Havre. This didn't hit the table enough. Traded away.
