Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.
Tile Placement
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Adds some interesting asymmetry to the players which adds to the enjoyment overall. A must add anytime I play now.

+ Variable setup introduced by new furnishing tiles: that’s exactly what Caverna was missing + The 2 player games are more interesting, now + Asymmetric factions play out really differently and determine your play style... = ...a lot. Sand-boxiness of vanilla game feels reduced while playing these factions. = But are all these factions well balanced for all player counts? Difficult to say. The players should always keep an eye on the other races moves... - Some races mixes are not the best: because of this, the best player count for this expansion seems to be 2 and 4 players; otherwise, all players must be aware of which race to choose and be careful to avoid factions with overlapping powers

Not even closely as necessary expansion as Farmers of the Moor is for Agricola. Also, I'm not sure if all races are balanced very well, as some of them seem quite weak beside others. Tile variety is increased with this expansion, as every race brings four new tiles to the game that replace some old tiles. I played one game as human. It was very hard to get cave constructions made, because humans have very limited capacity to work in caverns. Overhanging tiles in the forest was nice new feature though. This expansion can be a good purchase if you sometimes want to have some variation in your games. Probably I want to play also without expansion in future.
