Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

Equal turns variant? Players 2/3/4 draw 7/8/9 and discard down to 6? Players 2/3/4 get 1/2/3 yellows or randomly drawn points? Open scoring variant?

Really great strategy game that is a companion to Tigris and Euphrates. I actually am not sure which one is better; both have somewhat quirky rules that are a little hard to keep in mind, and I kept confusing the two of them. I think the computer implementation of this game is just fantastic.

A very unique game that feels so fluid and so classic in every way. The depths of strategy it offers are insane and as a result it reminds me a lot of chess. The only thing that makes this hard to recommend is that the fluid nature makes it a hard game to wrap your head around and so you wont be able to appreciate it much unless you play it relatively often and with players that have the same level of experience as you.
