Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

The Old Forest isn't the most exciting or innovative quest, but it's a solid, moderately-difficult quest. It makes a nice addition to the LOTR Campaign Mode, and has a cool surprise in the encounter deck. All in all it's a good quest, but nothing special. If you don't want to play it in your campaign and you're not really interested in the portion of the books it covers, you could do without this expansion.

Good to see this adventure, the moreso since Peter Jackson dropped it from the film... well done FF!

Great to play as part of the campaign for the complete story. Trees as enemies though is not that scary and this quest felt a lot like the book, more and more trees. Tom did show up briefly. Nearly impossible to play all the way through without making at least one mistake due to the number of cards to check for effects. For my campaign play I did not manage to win the boon card so no lasting impact on next quest. Would play again.
