Co-operative play encourages or requires players to work together to beat the game.
Cooperative Play
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.
Storytelling
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Amazing, thematic experience but the barrier to entry is SO HIGH. Rules Video, Rules, 69 page almanac... too much for the average gamer. Would love to play this some more though, now that I've learned it. The app also duplicates some elements of the board, which seems weird. I just stopped tracking phases and rounds on the board.

This is an interesting game. I think there is a ton here to enjoy but the process to get into it is rough. They give plenty of details of what things mean but the implementation and I individual steps are missing. It’s essentially vague. I think they packed so much into this game they couldn’t cover every detail or didn’t think to and your left putting the dots together. I think when you do your left with a unique coop experience I haven’t seen done a lot. Tons of scenarios and the campaign sounds awesome. Components are good quality and the price we got it for was a steal. The latest app I didn’t find lacking at all. It could improve the tutorial a bit but overall nothing really lacking. The app was pretty enjoyable to use and it felt like it saved time managing some things. It’s pretty hands of and silly animation free. I wish you didn’t have to read FAQs or forums to find circumstantial information but it didn’t long to answer the questions. I think we did played the malfunction block wrong which increased difficulty. It was clear you made the next block red but why, apparently it was to only roll that die and not all of them. We spent a lot of time bringing down those tracks because of it. Just stuff like that leaves you wanting. All in all it’s great if you spend the time but it certainly takes time to figure out it’s flaws. EDIT. A year or more later and I haven't had the time nor will I, to read the 66 page almanac, watch the watch it played videos, and read through the FAQ to remember how to play. We botched something in our initial play through and re-reading its not clear to me what it was. Since we are casual players we will play a few times and then revisit another year later and start the process over again. I think you need to dedicate a big chunk of time to this, rapid play through everything, then part with it when you are done. Anything else just eats up your time.
