Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection

Pandemic-inspired game with dice. + Roll to resolve for combat (failure is very rare) with card play after dice are rolled. + Multi-used cards. # Simpler puzzle, less logistics. # Hit points management. # No (card color) set collection (compared to original Pandemic). # Abstracted quests (symbol matching with cards). - Variability could be better. - Slow ramp up for the game to get going. See also: * Star Wars: The Clone Wars: similar, more variety.

The theme may unfortunately be a put off. Don't stop there! This game offer a fun fantasy adventure experience. Crush skulls, defeat the bad boss. I was worried the quests would be too dry. They are to some extent, but keep in mind you also need to manage the growth of undeads. The community developed more meaty options for those looking for challenge. Check them out!

An interesting reskin of Pandemic! Great scale of difficulty : your heroes can either be real powerhouses at lower difficulty levels, yet the game is challenging at higher difficulty levels. I own three pandemic variants (Cthulhu, Clone wars and Lich king) and I haven't been disappointed in any of them. Great pace, simplicity, flavor and fun factor!
