Smooth, easy to learn, harder to master, tactical skirmish combat game with excellent components by Martin Wallace. No dice just cards. Eurostyle dudes on a map game with area control, deck management, hidden placement. The game ends when a player is eliminated. # Good 2 player with expansion. - Waiting time to allow players to interrupt each other - Referencing which mini is which and how much health it has left - Box is bigger than necessary, insert is nice but does not support any expansion Similar games: * Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter: same mechanics, different setting. * Memoir 44 * Unmatched: Battle of Legends (light 2 player miniature skirmish game, card-driven, different playstyles for each character)

300 games in and I've become a little jaded and not many games nowadays are catching my attention. I had heard of Wildlands in passing but dismissed it quite quickly as it looked a bit too nerdy for us with all its orcs and elve tropes and I knew my wife wouldn't be interested in a fighting fantasy game. I recently picked this up in a trade along with another game that I actually wanted. Due to the simple ruleset and lovely components, I thought what the heck lets give it a go. Wow, what a game! Its the first game in a long while that's actually had me thinking about it and wanting to play again. Even my wife has asked to play it again! Even more so my 14-year-old has asked to play it again. So much fun. Quick to learn and set up. Gorgeous components and art. The fantasy theme has a very cool and fun side to it which makes it more accessible. We all feel in love with this game for its ease of play, short playtime and fantastic decision making. The only thing not making this a ten are the minis that whilst great quality minis, but just too small

Martin Wallace designs a fantasy game of players fighting and racing to collect their gems. Score points by getting your gems and taking out other players' characters. Intriguing even though it isn't the type of game I normally seek out. The 4 factions are unique, there does seem to be a good chunk of randomness and players seem to have a lot of options on how to handle their group. The game fell astonishingly flat for us. A couple players fought every chance they had and exhausted their available cards which allowed other players to more easily take them out. And the untouched player was able to just collect gems with most of them starting in the same area of the board. This feels like the essence of the problem with games like this... it's too easy for one or two players to fall way behind based on their choice or need to spend cards early. This felt like a game that could have been better... either designed better or played better by us - not sure which. Either way, it went really poorly and that means I'll likely never try it again.
