Deck building/Pool building refers to a collection of related mechanisms. Players have a personal pool, or collection, of cards or tokens, that provide different actions and/or resources. A subset of those cards/tokens are randomly drawn each turn.

Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Games with partnerships offer players a set of rules for alliances and teams. Partners are often able to win as a team, or penalties are enforced for not respecting alliances

2021-03: War Chest is really cool. The type of space it occupies in the hobby it was either going to fly or crash and burn with me and I am happy to say it was the former. It is an odd duck, playing like an abstract, but with a healthy dose of luck and some modern boardgaming sensibilities. On paper I should hate it because I like my abstract to feel ancient, but I love it because it is so fresh and interesting. My only real issue with the game is how disappointing the quality of the control tokens is compared to the rest of the production. I do want a lot more content though. Truly great game.

+ Amazing components help to add to the interesting bag-building mechanic supporting the solid tactical play; the different unit combinations make each new play fresh and interesting. - I wish there was a way to have the units on the board be identified by player color as well as by unit type. Why it's previously-owned: Just a bit clunky in the zero-sum nature of the board play which overshadowed the fun bag-building part of the game. Felt like there wasn't enough space for clever play.
