This mechanic usually requires players to pick up an item or good at one location on the playing board and bring it to another location on the playing board. Initial placement of the item can be either predetermined or random. The delivery of the good usually gives the player money to do more actions with. In most cases, there is a game rule or another mechanic that determines where the item needs to go.
Pick-up and Deliver
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

DearGeorgina
Improves the game -- but you're still playing Village. That game just doesn't have the depth for repeated plays for me, despite how nifty the generation mechanic is. The Life Goals cards do not seem balanced.

MUCH, much better than the heavily luck-driven Village Inn expansion (which is still a very good expansion, nevertheless)! Travel is now much more rewarding and much more challenging. The Life Goals don't add a heck of a lot, and are quite conditional: one should focus on achieving them only if they fit in with your other plans generally. As in the rest of the Village franchise, the art is superb...in spite of absurd colour choices! Missionaries (for example) frequently need a wagon and a brown cube to set up shop on an island, and the icon on the island shows the cube kind of on top of the wagon...and the cube and the wagon are the same colour! You have been warned...

Completely changes the travel aspect of the game; instead of getting points based on the number of cities visited, you now get points for trading in the goods you can acquire and by placing missionaries; can also get gold from treasure chests. Goal cards add interesting new ways for each player to score points. My only real complaint about the expansion is that the number of watery grave spots seems to be too few and cause the game to end quicker than I fell it should. The modular approach to the expansion makes it easy to keep the good stuff and leave out the travel changes.
