Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.
Pattern Building
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

The game is very repetitive and monotonous. It does not help that the group I was with made this game take over an hour and a half.

I learned from the rulebook and my first play was solo. My initial impressions was that I was having a difficult time trying not to remember Planted rules. I also do not think they explained the green thumb clearly. It is mentioned in the overview which I think is more of a summary and that the full body will have more in depth explanation. I like that each player is given two double sided reference cards. I hate that in solo mode you have to manage this "conveyer belt" except there is no conveyer belt. You just have to manually drag items - two tokens and two cards over to the right. This game would be better implemented in app or video game form. Similar games: The Village Green (spatial pattern building), Planted (resource management, theme, scoring), Cascadia/Calico: fixed bonus cards. Verdant is longer and more puzzly than Village Green and Planted, but I like Village Green because it's smaller, shorter, less fiddly and I like Planted because it's tactily more satisfying and the game overall is better for casual gamers. Of the three games, I think Verdant has more replayability because of the "campaign" at the end of the book.
