Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Maneuvers that directly attack an opposing player's strength, level, life points or do something else to impede their progress.

7/23/17 - Hans im Glueck. Love the art and feel of the game. Building up your personnel to carry out tasks to gather resources to contribute to the building of the city. Good family weight game with some nice choices throughout.

The first game felt too short and too long at the same time. (with the 2 player variant) The game was more of a saunter than a fast paced race, and we artificially prolonged it (i.e. didn't hurry to build the last building). This made the whole thing rather boring. It is a class above Dominion, though my initial rating is 6. Update: The 2nd time, we went for a quicker game - which improved the experience and felt a bit more exciting. The rating improved to 7.

This game is fine. I normally like race games (which this has some elements of, as you want to be the one to trigger the end game). However, doesn't feel like there's a good catch-up mechanic - so if you build a better engine, you're off getting points while everyone else gets further and further behind. Also - tiny cards spread over a large grid! It's nearly impossible to know what the cards do on the other side of the table, so it's always time to employ my favorite strategy of "ignore them and hope they weren't important."
