Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

I don't understand what all the hype is about. this felt very linear and boring, with almost no meaningful decisions at all. none of the various "items" (anomalies, break-throughs, etc) felt like they meaningfully changed what was essentially a boring calculus. I think they spent more time on the artwork and atmosphere (which are good) than on the game mechanics, which is always going to be a huge fail for me as a player.

I didn't find all too compelling. After playing a few planets, I thought the game was 50/50. The movement grid seems to be mostly repetitive. There is a lack of satisfaction from completing any of the missions. I don't understand the theme of chemistry, robotics, and engineering and their card abilities. The idea of black and white trust system doesn't make sense to me. Sold my copy. I hope others enjoy the game.

Pretty fun cooperative game. It's weirdly complex and simple all at the same time. The theme and tone is great, but I'm not sure how much I actually love the game. Both times I've played it felt pretty similar (search for things and hope you get lucky). Hoping more scenarios will reveal more differences in the system.
