In Action Point (AP) Allowance System games, each player is allotted a certain amount of points per round. These points can be spent on available actions, until the player does not have enough remaining to "purchase" any more actions.
Action Point Allowance System
Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.

Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling

Once I knew what I was doing this quickly became an addictive game. The solo is easy to use, although those who are more skilled than I find it too easy to beat (the manual lists ways to make it harder though.) I use the first three listed tweaks to make it harder and that seems to be about right for me (45% win rate)

Pro's 1) It's like someone just designed the perfect Euro - goods conversion mechanical masterpiece and just happened to attach the most appropriate theme. 2) The fact that each action stems from what is rather simple dice drafting yet creates such a beautiful series of complex and interesting decisions is really masterfully done. 3) There's times when you will pull off an amazing turn that feels exactly like a chemical chain reaction. Each part building onto the next allowing you to activate additional parts. Multiple transmutes that lead you complete an experiment that then unlock additional actions through the formulas. This feedback loop is spectacular. 4) The game really rewards repeated plays. As you become more familiar with the game, it becomes easier and easier to combo-chain actions in that highly satisfying way. Game gets out of the way and allows you to see the patterns and order of operations you need to get the most of your actions. Think Cypher from the matrix (I don't even see the code, all I see is Lead, tin, gold). The game really shines through repeated plays. 5) Beautiful aesthetics and production. Even simple things like how the resources are actually converted and the philosopher's stone are super charming. 6) One of the particularly interesting elements of the game arc is that it feels like you can't really do everything you need. But at the same time the game creates a sense that you can unlock the game engine to work for you and get the exact combo's of actions you need. Con's 1) The iconography/graphic design/symbology can be kind of a bear. You have the actual alchemical symbols themselves + the essences and the various types of bonuses + scoring. You're going to be referring to the key and double/triple checking everything. At the same time I can kind of understand that using the alchemical symbols is probably saving some time having to develop an additional language for no reason. 2) The box is really lacking in player aides. An action breakdown + icon key for each player would really be helpful, especially for some of the more common game interactions. 3) While there are spectacular turns there are also turns that feel kind of limiting/uninteresting. This inconsistency can feel extremely irritating if there are AP prone players and can feel extra bad if you have multiple lull turns in a row, especially in a full 4 player game.

I think this game is really excellent. It’s got some quirky rules but none that made me feel were wrong to use. It can create some AP for new players because this is a heavy deep strategy game but it’s worth it. You can create some really nice combos in one turn if done correctly. A tight dice placement game. Highly recommended for 2 player
