Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
Voting allows players to influence the outcome of certain events within the game. The vote may be all or nothing, choosing a target for an effect, or to determine the results of certain situations. Players’ votes may not have equal weight, and blocking a player from voting can be a valid tactic.
Voting
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Pre release on Tabletopia. ** Edit: The statements below are based on a version of the pre release rules that have been revised since this was written (June 2020) and therefore my comments may no longer reflect the current gameplay. Slow to start with many disjointed mechanics that just don't add up to a very compelling game. I had high hopes for the council mechanic but with it only occurring once every era it just felt like it was tacked on and mostly irrelevant to the outcome of the game.

Initially, I was skeptical of this, but the game really is engrossing. A 5 hour session zips by, and the combination of all the mechanically overwrought pieces come together in a cohesive whole.

Trinidad has many promising aspects. * Economically, the players cooperate to build a city and take advantage of each others' buildings to earn resources and victory points. * Military, there is a tension between "pacifists", who benefit from peace, and "aggressors", who benefit from wars. * Politically, there is a struggle between factions and their opinions on how to build the city. * Historically, the story of the foundation of Buenos Aires is told during the game. If all this is put together well, playing Trinidad will be a unique experience. The question is if there is enough GAME here to make the experience interesting and fun.
