Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.
Simultaneous Action Selection
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.
Tile Placement
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

This game looks good, but the gameplay was lacking. There was just not enough tension or enough interesting choices to make.

A game that deserves its 4+ Complexity Rating. Whilst its theme and design is beautiful, its reliance on iconography generates a lot of downtime and confusion, especially once you add the assistants. Nothing is intuitive and I felt like I was achieving nothing so I did what I could and was glad when we reached the end of the final round. Would play again but certainly not on my list of priorities.

The game gets worse the more plays in. Ordering components and acquiring new tricks stops the game dead in its tracks in the mid and late game when it's important to analyze who has what tricks and resources. As players gain experience with replays, the tricks booklet becomes more the focus and it's an AP nightmare, even ignoring the drudgery that is late game theatre manipulation with even more symbol matching. On top of that, the 36 fame tricks are poorly balanced with some trivial high scorers and others being realistically capped in single digits. Worker placement programming is good but the rest of it revolves around waiting for players to match symbols in increasingly complex permutations. Hours of downtime.
