This expansion worked for us and made the game more enjoyable for my two teenagers who felt frustrated by the original game when they got too many cubes they couldn't use.

I am loving Tiny Towns itself, and wanted to add in some more strategic options (with the coins to swap resources) as well as more building variety. The building variety is my favorite part!! I think it will also help with using the Master Builder variant (my preferred way to play, even while doing solo) for swapping away those resources that don't fit into your strategy, with the challenge of obtaining the coins in the first place.

The Fortune expansion introduces an interesting money mechanic that gives more flexibility during the game. It's pretty fun, although I don't know that it's required -- the base game is fine without it, although lower scores usually occur since you can't manipulate the resources as easily.
